My Approach
I am rooted in Person Centered theory as I believe that everyone has the capacity to heal and gain inner wisdom. This means that I will work to listen, understand, and guide you in self discovery. You know your life, your relationships, and yourself the best, and we can work together to continue your growth on your terms. It can be daunting to enter into this vulnerable space– I’ve been there too. Growth does not occur without some discomfort or “growing pains”, so I welcome any anxieties that might be present. My job is to create a therapeutic space using authenticity, unconditional positive regard, and empathy for you to explore a deeper understanding and relationship with yourself.
During the first appointment, we will discuss your current experience and goals for therapy. Based on your goals, I will pull from other approaches and interventions to support this innate drive towards growth including (but not limited to) mindfulness, parts work, and cognitive behavioral therapy. I believe the art of counseling comes from a blend of science and inner wisdom, so we will utilize both realms in our work together. However, the therapeutic alliance will be held at the forefront as this can be the greatest catalyst for change.
