Frequently Asked Questions
When should I go to counseling?
Although there is no “right” time to go into therapy, there can be some signs that you could benefit from adding this support. You might be feeling overwhelmed by your emotions or responsibilities in life. Maybe you aren’t feeling heard or seen in the way you need. Sometimes people aren’t getting fulfillment in their life and want to reconnect with their “why”. Change does spark some uncomfortable turbulence, so this discomfort you might be experiencing could be a sign to reach out for some help.
How much does it cost? Do you take insurance?
15-minute Consultation - Free

I am in network with limited insurance companies, so feel free to contact me with questions regarding insurance. If I am not covered by your insurance, I am happy to create a “Superbill” that gets sent to your insurance for possible reimbursement. I encourage you to check with your insurance prior to starting services. I offer a student discount ($120 per session) for individuals with valid student ID. Don't hesitate to reach out with any questions regarding payment.
Is telehealth therapy a good fit for me? What if the internet goes out?
Telehealth therapy (Video based online therapy) is a great option that often provides more flexibility and comfort. As someone that has been on both sides of the therapeutic alliance, I found telehealth helpful when scheduling around work and other obligations. You will need a private, confidential space for our video sessions and stable internet connection. I recommend setting up your space that allows you to feel as comfortable and open to learning as you can. If the internet goes out, I will reach out to you by phone and we can determine if we need to problem solve or reschedule.
How long do I have to be in counseling?
The length of treatment is a collaborative decision that you will have the ultimate say in. Some people only need a few sessions, some may need longer. Proper treatment closure is an important aspect of the therapeutic relationship, so this will be an ongoing conversation.
How long will a session last?
Sessions can last anywhere from 50-60 minutes. If there are any restrictions or accommodations related to your session time, we can discuss that during our consultation call. I recommend starting the frequency of sessions at once a week or once every two weeks, however I understand there might be circumstances preventing that. Over the course of treatment, that frequency can change at any point. You will be able to schedule your appointments through SimplePractice giving you the autonomy to make the decision that is best for you.
What if I need to cancel my appointment?
You can access your SimplePractice portal to cancel your appointment. You can also contact me via mali@flowingconnectionscounseling.com. If able, be sure to cancel your appointment 24 hours in advance. This will avoid any no-show fees. As your session hour will be reserved, I do charge a $45 fee if the session is not canceled with at least 24 hours notice.
What to expect for my very first session? How should I prepare?
The first session will be an intake session exploring your experience, history, and goals for counseling. This will help inform our work together and build a collaborative treatment plan. In order to prepare, bring your authentic self and some ideas on goals you would like to work towards. If you are having trouble identifying goals, no need to worry. We can come up with some goals together.
Since we will be working together via telehealth, it is important to create a space that allows for a private space to talk. I recommend also setting up your space to be comfortable (lighting a candle, snuggling up with a cozy blanket, brewing some soothing tea, etc.).
How do I get started?
This part is easy! There is a link below and on the home page to book a consultation call. This call is a free 15 minute discussion to see if I’m a good fit for you. If we decide to work together, I will set you up with a client portal through a HIPAA compliant platform and schedule the first session.
